Hailing from Toronto, Canada vocalist Chrystyna Marie masters a memorable voice. Blending elements of raw blues with huge pop melodies, the musician brings a very unique sound to the table. You'll get a taste of that unique sound when you hear her new Loaded Gun EP.
This year Chrystyna Marie is gearing up to release her Loaded Gun EP, and after years of working with labels she has decided to release the project independently. With all the control in her hands Chrystyna is aiming to create a record that speaks to the masses. "I wanted to create music from personal experiences and true emotions. Something the everyday person can relate to and build strength from having been exposed to."
She's done just that with the project's two singles that have been released thus far...

Chrystyna kicked off the project with the EP's title track "Loaded Gun." A heavy drum line drives the production forward as the musician sings about a love so potent that it can be equated to a loaded weapon. The track explores the darker side of love, as Chrystyna attempts to move on from a lover but repeatedly falls victim to the temptation of staying by his side. There is a sense of strained fascination to the dark addiction, as our belabored songstress threatens to leave but proclaims that she only needs one bullet to be kept in place.
The album's second official single "Down The Road" strips back some of the production in favor of a raw and bluesier influence. Chrystyna's vocals vibrate with power as she sings of finding her way to peace after years of struggle. Her voice growls across the sparse instrumentation, and a chorus comes in for some subtle harmonies on the chorus. The track is the ideal follow up to the darker days on "Loaded Gun," as it becomes readily apparent that this songstress won't let anyone hold her back from her goals. There is a world-weariness to her vocals on the chorus, yet Chrystyna is entirely at peace with being finally home.
The two tracks perfectly display Chrystyna Marie's unique sonic aesthetic. "Loaded Gun" effectively blend Chrystyna Marie's grungy blues origins with a memorable pop aesthetic. Her bright pop melodies are hugely listenable but tempered by the growling maturity on tracks like "Down The Road."
The EPs remaining tracks explore new sides of Chrystyna's vocal stylings. "No More" sees the artist explore a more rock oriented production as she moves forward from a lover after a relationship. The EP's closing track "The Tower" is the project's one true ballad, and it is particularly poignant. Chrystyna's voice is at its most fragile as she ponders where she belongs over an ethereal piano led instrumentation. Her voice grows in power and there is a sense of triumph as she moves forward. "There will be no breaking down, only breaking through" Chrystyna Marie declares before asking who will wear the crown when it all falls down.
The track comes to an somewhat unclear ending, but we're left confident that Chrystyna Marie is capable of weathering any storm that comes her way...
Overall the Loaded Gun EP is a captivating listen from start to finish. Chrystyna Marie displays an impressive resilience and versatility between the tracks, and we're enthralled by what is to come!
