Casting for the live-action version of the Disney fairytale Cinderella, is coming full circle. Helena Bonham Carter will be joining Lily James, Richard Madden and Cate Blanchett in the remake directed by Kenneth Branagh.
While the role of Cinderella’s wicked stepmother, Lady Tremaine, belongs to Blanchett, Bonham Carter will take on the role of Cinderella’s fairy godmother – a role definitely opposite from her role in Alice In Wonderland as the Red Queen. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the fairy godmother is going to get more screen time in comparison to the animated version. We’ll first see her disguised as a beggar watching over the Disney princess before she busts out her magic wand.
Production is slated to begin in London this Fall, so it won’t be until 2014 till we see Helena Bonham Carter work her magic and get Cinderella to the ball.
For now, you can see her as brothel owner Red in the upcoming film The Lone Ranger, starring alongside Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer.
