Cloverfield is sort of a weird “series,” isn’t it? I mean, the first one is a shaky cam film about an attack on New York from a giant monster that was actually pretty mysterious and intriguingly ill-defined until the marketing completely spoiled it all by revealing every last detail of the monster in full.
Mystery? What's that?
Then you have 10 Cloverfield Lane, about a woman being trapped in a bunker by John Goodman, who claims that they can’t survive above ground anymore.
Quite reasonably, she tries to escape
We’re still waiting to hear more about God Particle/Cloverfield Station, which was supposed to hit theaters April 2018, but multiple delays have made the overall status of this film a little murky and rumour has it the project may head directly to Netflix instead. Any unease around Cloverfield 3 isn't hindering the creation of a fourth film, which is called Overlord and has already finished filming.
Details about the film hit the initially hit the internet in March, with a connection to Bad Robot's bizarre film anthology only somewhat tentative. But it appears that the connection to the Cloverfield franchise has been confirmed, this time taking us back to World War II. Here is the official description:
On the eve of D-Day, American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion’s success. But as they approach their target, they begin to realize there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. They find themselves fighting against supernatural forces, part of a Nazi experiment.
Produced by J.J. Abrams, Overdrive is directed by Julius Avery and stars Wyatt Russell from 22 Jump Street and Jovan Adepo of Fences, and continues the trend of a series that isn't really connected via plot–or even a single theme like other anthologies–but rather overall science fiction concepts. It's scheduled for release in October.
