Coldplay Releases Hunger Games Track 'Atlas'

76 days till The Hunger Games: Catching Fire releases and as the date for the highly anticipated sequel comes closer fans of the franchise have some new music to get excited about.

That’s right! The lead single off of the Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack has been released. The track, entitled “Atlas”, is performed by rock band Coldplay, who has brought us hits including “Paradise” and “Fix You”. It was announced back in August that Coldplay would be the artist to perform the first song on the new soundtrack and since then the band has been counting down to its release on their official Twitter.

Director of Catching Fire, Francis Lawrence, is excited to have Coldplay attached to the film. “I have great respect and admiration for Coldplay, and we are thrilled with how well they have connected to the themes and ideas within the film.” This is the first time the band has recorded a song for a film soundtrack and the fact that Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is a fan of the Hunger Games books definitely makes it more personal.

For the first Hunger Games soundtrack, Taylor Swift and the Civil Wars created a hit single with “Safe and Sound” which later went on and received several award nominations including Best Original Song at the 70th Golden Globe Awards. It was then heavily featured in trailers for the first film.

I think it’s safe to say that “Atlas” will have the same reception and recognition. As more trailers and previews release for Catching Fire we’ll probably be hearing the single add to the epicness that the trailers possess.

“Atlas” is available for download on iTunes worldwide, but if you’re in the UK you can pre-order the single for release on Sunday. Check out the song below!
