In an interview with Ellen Degeneres, Colin Farrell revealed that before the death of Elizabeth Taylor in 2011, the two had a romantic relationship. The 37-year-old also shared that though they were close for two years, the duo never consummated their love. "It was kind of like the last, it feels like in my head, not her, I'm projecting, but the last kind of romantic relationship I had, which was never consummated," he said. The two started their romance when Farrell met Taylor’s team at Cedara-Sinai Medical Center where he was awaiting the birth of his son and she was getting a stent put in her heart. "I saw them outside…told them my son's about to be born. They said 'Oh'. I said 'What are you doing here?' And they said 'Well Elizabeth's having a stint put in her heart, it's no big deal cause she had so much s**t' and I said, 'Will you tell her I said hello? She probably won't know who I am'. But Farrell was wrong, Taylor did know who he was. In fact, Taylor talked of her love for him in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, “I love Johnny Depp, and I love Colin Farrell-both brilliant, nuanced actors with great range.” A few days after the run-in with her team, the Saving Mr. Banks star called wanting to send her flowers, only to find she had beat him to the punch, so he asked to meet with her instead. "I got to have an audience with her," he revealed. "That was the beginning of a year and a half or two years of what was a really cool. The two became very close, very quickly, even exchanging late-night phone calls. "She wasn't much of a sleeper at night, like I'm not, so at two o'clock in the morning, I'd call her," he said. "I'd call her at two in the morning, and the nurse would answer the phone, and I'd say, 'Is she awake?’ Then I'd be on the phone and I'd hear, 'Hello?' And I'd go, 'How's it going?' And we'd talk for a half an hour, an hour, into the wee hours." Taylor died at 79 from heart failure, but Farrell looks back on their relationship with love. "I just adored her. She was a spectacular, spectacular woman," he said. "I wanted to be [husband] number 8, but we ran out of road." Farrell’s new movie Saving Mr. Banks tells the story of Walt Disney trying to get the rights to P.L. Travers’ book, Mary Poppins and releases into theaters December 20th.
