After years of roasting stars that were over the hill or washed up (David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson, and William Shatner being popular ones), Comedy Central brought a certain prestige to the annual ceremony by roasting James Franco in 2013, and bringing along some other high-profile people to roast him. After skipping out on a 2014 roast, it was announced today (Jan. 20) that the 2015 roast
will be towards none other than Justin Bieber, thus continuing the trend of more high-profile roastees.
Bieber, who has become a polarizing figure based on his bad-boy antics and questionable behavior in public and private, will be the subject of one of Comedy Central’s patented scorching roasts on March 7th.
Comedy Central issued a statement through Ryan Seacrest’s website where they said:
“Justin has been asking us for years to roast him, so we kept telling him to create some more material and we’re thrilled he listened.”
It hasn’t been announced as to who will be serving as roastmaster for the ceremony, or which comedians will come along to skewer Bieber, but hopefully we can expect a combination of old favorites, such as Jeff Ross and Anthony Jeselnik, along with some new faces (perhaps Kate McKinnon can come along and do her critically-acclaimed Bieber impression, which was recently brought out again this past week on Saturday Night Live
The event will be taped on March 7th, but an airing date has not yet been announced.
