It's true, fans -- Melissa McCarthy has announced that she WILL be returning for the Gilmore Girls revival! Many of us were left despondent when it looked like our favorite chef wouldn't be coming back to Stars Hollow for the much anticipated Netflix revival. But the television Gods have answered our pleas! McCarthy made the announcement on the Ellen Show to an audible gasp of excitement from the audience.
Last February, Amy Sherman-Palladino remarked on McCarthy's busy schedule as the reason for her absence and then Melissa herself responded to a fan via Twitter when asked if she was returning saying, "Thanks for the invite, but sadly no one asked me or Sookie to come back to Stars Hollow. Wish them all the best!!"
Sherman-Palladino then re-extended the invitation, telling Entertainment Weekly, "We’ve just put it out into the universe; we’re here until May 10. I know what the scene is. I’ll pre-light it for her. She can drive up, run in, shoot it, and run out. I can get her in and out in two hours."
McCarthy played Sookie St. James; chef, business partner, and best friend to Lorelai Gilmore, for 7 years on the hit show. It is unclear right now which of the four 90-minute movies Sookie will appear in and for how many scenes. According to sources, she will be filming in Stars Hollow in the coming days.
