Conspiracy Theory: Is Katy Perry Really JonBenét Ramsey? | JonBenét

As someone who has lived in Colorado for most of her life, I feel a little strange writing this story about JonBenét Ramsey and her tragedy. Boulder, CO is not very far from where I grew up and the murder of this bubbly beauty queen was front page news for months and months back in 1996 and 1997 and a person just couldn't get away from it.

From the perceived bumbling of the Boulder Police Department to the theories that JonBenét's brother, Burke, murdered her--it was one of the most sensational stories to ever come out of the Rocky Mountains. There was only one fact that was ever really definitive about the entire affair, and that was that a six year old girl was murdered.

It's a tragedy from many years ago, 20 years this December, and it has found its way to headlines again. For some strange reason, a conspiracy video (made by someone named David Johnson) back in 2014 has suddenly gone viral. The seven minute video shows images of JonBenét and Katie Perry melting into one another over the sweet voice of the little girl singing "God Bless America." A slightly slurred and hostile voice tells the audience that, "JonBenét Ramsey became Katy Perry, and that's a fact." By the time the poorly pieced together video is finished the only fact I know is that Mr. Johnson has no idea what a fact (something that truly exists or happens) is.

The video does not offer any actual proof of a cover up in any way, shape, or form.  Mr. Johnson let's us know in his "authoritative" voice that the entire episode was manufactured in order to make JonBenét famous later in life--and that's it.  I started watching the video with an "I can't believe I'm giving this guy my precious time" attitude, and I ended it with a "How much time do other people really have on their hands?" vibe.

The fact that this video is very popular right now actually hurts my heart. I realize that writing about it is only helping it stay in the headlines, but I'm hoping that because I watched it you don't have to. Stay away, it's pathetic. I can tell you right now that, no, Katy Perry is not JonBenét grown up. I only have to give you one fact to show that this is true: Katy Perry was born in 1984 and JonBenét was born in 1990. Case closed.

If nothing else comes out of this, I hope that people still remember little JonBenét. She lost her life so tragically and so very young and we still don't know who did it. The case is still an open homicide investigation and hopefully, someday, enough evidence will be found to give her short life some closure.
