Good news Hellblazers! John Constantine will return to screens in the fourth season of Arrow. Matt Ryan, who was perfectly cast in as the titular character in NBC's too-short series, is set to reprise the role in the fifth episode of Arrow's upcoming season. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim hinted that Constantine's appearance is related to the events surrounding Sara Lance's resurrection.
Unlike Thea, who wasn't fully dead, the consequences of using the pit on someone as dead as Sara was creates some unforeseen difficulties...and John Constantine is uniquely suited to help our team deal with those.
Guggenheim also offered insight into how Team Arrow is likely to respond to Constantine's intervention. Oliver's reaction will be "more of an experienced one", due to his familiarity with the mystical. Diggle's will be similar to his reaction to the metahumans in The Flash, with Guggenheim promising "a few choice lines".
The announcement was made at the annual Television Critics Association summer press tour and comes just a few months after the show was cancelled. Fans of the show, referred to as Hellblazers, lobbied for the show to get picked up on another network. Even Arrow star Stephen Amell tweeted his support for the show, offering to guest star if another network were to pick up season 2. Sadly, the show remains cancelled. Guggenheim referred to Ryan's appearance as a "one-time only deal", but fans are hopeful it will lead to more.
In addition to casting the original actor, Arrow was also able to secure Constantine's original costume. John Badham, who directed the episode "Danse Vaudou", as well as episodes of the CW's Supernatural is set to direct the episode.
Ryan posted a short video confirming the exciting news to his twitter account:https://twitter.com/mattryanreal/status/631211617859059712
What do you think, Hellblazers and Arrow fans? Are you as excited for this team up as we are?
