The TBS comedy series Cougar Town will be returning January 7th, 2014 for its fifth season.

The show, which originally premiered on ABC in 2009, was adopted by TBS at the beginning of its fourth season.

Cougar Town has provided TBS with some of its strongest ratings yet for an original primetime series in the key 18-49 age demographic.

Cougar Town has been everything we hoped it would be: a smart, big-hearted, laugh-out-loud comedy that shines a bright light on the TBS brand,” the network’s president of programming Michael Wright said.

“This season, the brilliant cast and immensely creative production team on Cougar Town have crafted their best episodes yet, and we couldn’t be happier inviting them back for more.”

The series has been positioned at the centre of TBS’ winter schedule, reports Digital Spy.

The finale focused on Jules and her father Chick, whom we learn is going through the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease. Upon learning this, Jules plans a trip to Hollywood in hopes of giving her Dad one last memory he will hopefully never forget.

The episode’s lighter moments were those of Laurie and Travis’ nascent romance. The two had several attempts at a first kiss which did not take place until the show’s final moments.

TBS is promoting the episode with a teaser which features the cast joking about not drinking until the premiere of the new season.
