If reports are to be believed, it looks like Dominic Cooper might be replacing Sacha Baron Cohen for the lead role in the Freddie Mercury biopic. The actor who starred in the movie version of Mamma Mia is the most recent name to be linked to the project since Baron Cohen left the project.
It was suggested that Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) was to replace the Les Miserables star, however the star was quick to refute these claims.
Baron Cohen is said to have left the project due to “creative differences” with the makers of the film and the surviving members of Queen. They wanted to portray his life in a more “subdued” way than Cohen wanted to.
Peter Morgan (Rush, Frost/Nixon) is working on the screenplay, while gathering information and working with the other members of Queen. Graham King and Robert DeNiro are producing, while Tom Hooper of The Kings Speech and Les Miserables filmmaker is the front runner to be the director on the project.
