The short answer is: no.
Simon Pegg tweeted yesterday a pic of himself pointing at Ant-Man.
Pegg is in New York promoting Edgar Wright’s film The World’s End and took the pic during a tour at Marvel offices.
The pic gained wide internet attention and people started speculating if Pegg was hinting that he will take the lead role in the upcoming Marvel film.
Ant-Man will be Edgar Wright’s next film after The World’s End. He talked about this upcoming Marvel project at Comic Con, saying he would begin preparation for the film in October.
Reporter Drew McWeeny said that Pegg could play Ant-Man because the director is going in another direction with the character: “Part of the reasoning for why he might seriously be announcing that he’s going to play Ant-Man is because Edgar Wright and co-writer Joe Cornish are taking a different approach to this one than most of the Marvel movies so far”.
However, Pegg later took twitter to say he is not playing Ant-Man while executive editorial director of Marvel Digital Media Group, Ryan Penagos, tweeted to Slashfilm that Pegg was just recording a podcast.
Ant-Man, part of Marvel’s phase three, will follow the story if this comic character who is able to shrink himself down to the size of an insect. Wright suggested the tone of this film will not be dissimilar to that of the Iron Man series, and no casting news has yet been announced.
It’s slated to be released in 2015, after Avengers: Age of Ultron.
