Coulson being alive is the best news in the Marvel fandom in the history of ever. He’s got his own TV Show Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. He’s still BAMF personified.
He is not, however, going to be in the Avengers sequel, The Avengers: Age Of Ultron.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Whedon said that addressing Coulson’s death (and resurrection) was a plot line too far for the sequel.
"He could [come back]. Right now it’s not something I’m pursuing because I have so much going on in Avengers 2,” Whedon said. “Finding out that Coulson is alive would be an entire B story. And I already have too much movie. That’s better than the other thing.”
Clark Gregg has expressed in the past that he would like to return to the Marvel movies. It is probably a good idea, however, to let Gregg get used to the schedule of filming for Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Speaking of Marvel movies and Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., Whedon did say there was a possibility for crossover.
"We need to make sure there’s some crossover, but not so much that people go, ‘Well, I don’t need to see that movie. I saw it on TV’."
Clearly having a franchise on the big and little screens is a balancing act.
While sad that I won’t see Coulson in the sequel to The Avengers, I can’t wait to see him weekly in Fall 2013!
