As a straight man, I can tell you Courtney Act is one sexy person…as a DJ, I can tell you the guy can sing!!! The Australian Drag Queen came 3rd on Australian Idol in 2003 (Remember…back when it was new and interesting?) so he has the pipes to go all the way in the music industry. But not being content with one talent, he has set his sights on being crowned “America’s Next Drag Superstar” in RuPaul's Drag Race, to be aired Monday 24th February on Logo. So how do you get fans to cheer and vote you up? Why, release a music video about tolerance of course! The new single, “From Russia with Love” is a fun little pop diddy which I could clearly see receiving radio play and being requested at the next teenage party. [embed][/embed] The beat is fun, the music video is well shot but lyrically, there is nothing overly substantial. You would think a song sung by a drag queen, showing two gay guys about Russia would have some kind of political message. As a music reviewer it saddens me there was not one verse dedicated to this, instead he chose to go the safe route. That being said, however, if Russia ever decides to join the rest of the world in tolerance and equality, this song would make an excellent theme song to be played. When asked, Act said “Russia is a very different place than what we in the west are familiar with, we cannot apply our own values and judgments to the country.   We need to have greater compassion and understanding and recognize that our similarities are greater than our differences.” Well….I must just be Judgie McJudgerson, but I think we may have to agree to disagree Courtney! However, I think we can both agree that this song will be well received! What about you? What do you think of the song? Do you think artists should speak out against Russia’s antigay laws? Do you think Courtney Act will win Drag Race? Let us know in the comments below!
