Covert Affairs: The Show (And Annie’s Hair) Get Darker In Season 4

After a one month hiatus, Covert Affairs has returned to a new night and will air its final six episodes of Season 4. And it looks like some major changes are in order for CIA officer Annie Walker.

The spy drama, which premiered its first season back in 2010, follows multilingual Walker (Piper Perabo), a new CIA agent who is sent to the DPD (Domestic Protection Division). She works alongside and learns the ins and outs of her newfound career from Auggie Anderson (Christopher Gorham), a blind CIA agent. Walker joined the CIA to help take down an ex-boyfriend and clearly she can hold her own.

During the mid-season finale (Season 4), fans of the show saw that Annie faked her own death with the help of Calder (Hill Harper). This move was made in an attempt to take down the manipulative Henry Wilcox (Gregory Itzin), the former Director of Clandestine Services at the CIA.

In the episode “Dead”, which premiered last Thursday (Oct. 17), Annie donned a new darker hairstyle and to most of her CIA allies she was dead. Perabo was even shocked at her character’s new revelation. “I was shocked that not everyone knew, I couldn’t believe that we weren’t gonna tell everybody,” she revealed, according to the Huffington Post.

As for Auggie, he was one of the lucky ones to know truth about Annie’s so-called death and other people begin to question his newfound alliance with Calder. He also has to play his role in the plan and convince others he is mourning the death of his significant other. “[After Annie plans to fake her death] you can see the helpless moment with Auggie, which is really rare … Auggie is so strong; so trustworthy; so secure; so good — so when you see him out of control, it’s really scary … I know it affects Auggie in the back six [episodes] to have this thing that he can’t control or help with.”

As for the rest of the season, Perabo describes it as “pretty dark.” “Annie is Geneva and she has to keep a low profile. “She has to operate from almost a criminal point of view, because she doesn’t have the sanction of the CIA, and what she’s doing, she knows how to do but she doesn’t really have permission to do any of this,” she explained, also going on to compare the experience as going back to the beginning. “It almost brings you back to rookie status … She only has herself to rely on, she’s out there in the dark.”

Just keep a look out on Annie’s hair color though; it may indicate how things will go. “When Annie’s hair goes blonde again, you’ll know everything’s gonna be fine.”

Don’t forget to catch the final 5 episodes of Covert Affairs airing Thursdays on USA!
