If you thought Harry Potter’s popularity would die down with the end of the film and book series, then you've already been proven wrong.
Tickets for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Harry Potter’s upcoming stage play, recently went on sale and, within just a couple of hours, they sold out completely, selling more than 175,000 tickets.
Clearly, the beloved series will continue to have widespread loyalty among its readers and viewers.
Ticket sales began around 11 a.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 28) and by 7 p.m., dozens upon dozens of tickets had already been sold. The website experienced frequent crashes due to the amount of people flooding the servers trying to get a ticket. Many tickets appeared on eBay just minutes after selling out, and the prices for said tickets are twice as much; several are going for around $2,000.
The official Twitter account for the play warned people against selling their tickets on “alternate platforms,” but tickets remain on sale on eBay. Additional tickets were scheduled to be released today (Oct. 30).
Previews for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will begin in summer of 2016 at the Palace Theater; the play’s plot takes place 19 years after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, and “follows the former boy wizard and his son Albus, who struggles under the weight of his family legacy.”
