Following the huge success of reality series Drag Queens of London, sassy show regulars Silver Summers, Vicki Vivacious and Sheila Simmonds will join fellow Supreme Fabulettes members Vanilla Lush and Portia De Fosse to create an explosion of glitter on London’s West End.
For those who haven’t seen Drag Queens of London (where have you been?), The Supreme Fabulettes are a close vocal harmony group boasting glitz and glamor galore. Much more than a cheap cabaret act, they have received a host of five star reviews and were named number one critics’ choice by Time Out Magazine.
Drag Queens of London, which aired its series finale last night, gave viewers an insight into the group’s strict rehearsal schedule and tour antics as they aspire to be the faces of elegant entertainment. Packing up their heels and handbags, the Supreme Fabulettes are bringing their nationally-acclaimed show, Viva La Drag!, back to the West End for a limited run.
The show is directed by none other than Kylie Minogue’s creative director, William Baker, and features songs especially composed by musical legend Boy George. The elite creative team is also fashioned by musical directors Steve Anderson (Kylie Minogue, Leona Lewis, Susan Boyle), John Themis (MD to Boy George and number one hit songwriter) and vocal arranger Terry Ronald (Girls Aloud and Danni Minogue). The sure-to-be-fabulous costume design comes from Stevie Stewart, who framed world tours such a Britney’s Circus Tour, Girls Aloud’s Reunion Tour and Kylie Minogue’s Aphrodite Tour.
Viva la Drag! is “an outrageous party to die for” says show promoter Michael Taylor. The story follows the group’s razor-tongued manager (Sheila Simmonds) causes band splits and solo hits against a backdrop of backstabbing, love and tears.
Michael adds, “It packs in more hit songs than any other production, featuring more hits than you can bat a set of oversized lashes at.”
Theater goers are set to shimmy away to “I’m Every Woman,” “Baby Love,” “Proud Mary,” “We Are Family,” “Born This Way,” “Survivor,” “Single Ladies,” “Crazy in Love,” “Man! I Feel Like a Woman,” and, of course, Silver Summer’s signature cover of “Diamonds.”
Be sure to look out for our opening night review, we’re currently dusting off our heels and fluffing our feather boas in preparation…
Viva La Drag plays at London’s Leicester Square Theatre from June 26 – June 28th, book tickets here. You can also keep up with the goings on Viva La Drag on Twitter and Facebook.
