Rejoice fans of Katsura Hoshino’s D-Gray Man for the beloved series chronicling the trials and tribulations of exorcist Allen Walker will be receiving a new anime series that will be premiering in 2016.

The long-awaited announcement was made at Jump Festa followed by the launching of the new series official website where an exclusive promotional video was streamed.

Along with the promo video, the website also revealed who will be voicing who – Ayumu Murase (Haikyu!!) will be our new Allen Walker whereas Shinnosuke Tachibana (Kamisama Kiss) will be voicing Link. These are the only two known casting alterations made; the rest of the revamped cast has yet to be revealed.

D-Gray Man’s official website and Twitter account unveiled the new series key visual which features the tagline, “I want to live. Even if I destroy you.”

Based on the visual the new anime is likely to pick up where the 2008 anime left off though now official announcement has been made regarding the plot.

The original D-Gray Man anime had a grand total of 103 episodes that ran from 2006 to 2008. Funimation released gave the widely popular series a home video release but did not finish releasing all the episodes.

D-Gray Man takes place “in an alternative fantasy version of the early 20th century” and focuses on Allen Walker; a charming and likable young exorcist who protects humanity alongside The Black Order from the villainous Millennium Earl.

Due to Katsura Hoshino’s poor health, D-Gray Man has gone on hiatus multiple times and just recently resumed publication. Viz Media holds the license to D-Gray Man and released the manga’s 24th volume – the last complied volume due to a hiatus – in August 2014.

As a fan of D-Gray Man, this news was a long-time coming! The anime slate for 2016 was already huge enough as it is, but with the addition of D-Gray Man, I can’t help but feel 2016 is going to be THE year of high quality anime.
