Daniel Ramirez Medina Detained By ICE

Daniel Ramirez Medina lives in the United States with his young son, and he works under a work permit. ICE detained him anyway.

What would you do if officials took you away from your child?

Daniel Ramirez Medina was detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Washington. Even though the 23 year old has a work permit, a son, and no rap sheet, he was taken by officials, anyway.

“US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents had intended to arrest his father at home in Seattle, but also detained Mr. Ramirez,” according to a BBC article. If they seized him, then where did Ramirez go wrong?

He’s not a criminal, and he’s built a home here in the US. However, he illegally immigrated to the United States at seven years old; he was just a child. The Obama administration enforced a policy that protected him, though.

“Mr. Ramirez’s legal team say this could be the first time under the Trump administration that a person covered by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, has been taken into immigration custody.” According to the article headline, “US detains Mexican despite work permit.”

DACA permitted children illegally brought into the US to get an education and a job without being deported. It took the pressure off of kids; they could worry about their grades and after-school activities instead of grown-up fears, like deportation.

President Trump promised to keep the country safe through immigration reform, but he’s doing such a poor job; is he reforming or regressing?

He informed Twitter, “The crackdown on illegal criminals is merely the keeping of my campaign promise. Gang members, drug dealers & others are being removed!”

Like any other citizen, Ramirez is a vital component of the working class. He just wants a better life for both him and his son. Senator Chuck Schumer said it best: “DACA recipients should not be an ICE priority. They are young people working & contributing to this great country.”
