Having seen her first Broadway show at the age of five, Danielle Cormier has always been captivated by the power of music and song. As she got older, her interest in both only grew stronger and she learned both the piano and guitar and regularly performed in school plays and regional theatre productions. Over the years, her dedication to the craft allowed her to hone her skills and her move to Music City in 2016 saw her record her first collection of songs, the Casino Sessions EP.
Following the release of her album Fire and Ice in 2018, Danielle quickly earned herself acclaim from the likes of American Songwriter, Popmatters and Glide Magazine and racked up several million listens on Spotify alone. After the success of her previous holiday singles “Christmas Is You” and “Coming Home This Christmas” she’s now shared another holiday-inspired track with her fans titled “This Time Last Year”, and PopWrapped are delighted to premiere its video.
Asked about the inspiration and story to the track, Danielle explains: “Though many people can relate to the words in this song, it is also very personal and I wanted the video to reflect that. My father passed away unexpectedly back in June and my co-writer, Karlie Bartholomew, lost her grandfather around the same time. They say that the firsts are always difficult after losing someone, especially the holidays. We wanted to write a holiday song about how everything changes after they are gone. The traditions you once knew are no longer the same. Unfortunately this year, a lot of people will be able to relate to that. This video compiles memories of Christmas’ past with footage from home videos and allows my father’s memory to live on.”
