Thanks to his impressive ability to blend anthemic pop-punk dynamics with passion and honesty fuelled lyrics, Darro has established himself as a distinctive artist, and his personal story is just as inspiring and thought provoking as his music. Diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2017, he underwent surgery and extensive rehabilitation. As hard as it was, he never gave up and, having relearnt to both talk and sing, he’s since put all his time and energy into pursuing his dream, which resulted in the release of his debut album Songs of Recovery in November last year. Now here in 2021, he’s so far released a slew of singles, and PopWrapped are delighted to premiere his latest, titled “Runs On Guilt.”
Darro says of the track: “This song is inspired by a culmination of failed relationships from my past. There were many moments where I would see red flags but consistently chose to ignore them, and in the end caused a great deal of pain to myself and others. There are definitely things that I regret from past relationships, and this song is my way of processing guilt.”
He goes on to add: “I’ve always been a fan of fantasized tragedies, whether in movies or plays. While “Runs on Guilt,” does draw influence from my past, it takes the idea of toxic and manipulative relationships to the extreme. This track is a tragic story about a toxic relationship where one partner is extremely manipulative and the other keeps coming back. The protagonist has moments of realization that they need to leave the relationship or risk losing their way. In the end, the protagonist tragically succumbs to the lust and desire of their manipulative partner and accepts that this is their life now.”
