Dave Grohl’s Mom Wrote A Book About Raising Rock Stars

Virginia Hanlon Grohl wrote a book about what it’s like to raise a rock star son, with interviews with mothers of some of music’s biggest stars.

There are plenty of books out there for parents that give helpful tips and lifehacks to help you raise your child. From bestselling baby bibles like What To Expect When You’re Expecting to the aptly-titled The Baby Book, there is a seemingly infinite amount of information out there to help raise your little one. While these are great, the one thing these books do not cover is how to raise a child to be a rock star. Fortunately, Virginia Hanlon Grohl has that covered for us in her book, From Cradle to Stage: Stories From The Mothers Who Rocked And Raised Rock Stars

Virginia Hanlon Grohl is the mother of Dave Grohl, who has made quite an established career for himself as the drummer for Nirvana and as the frontman for Foo Fighters. If anyone is looking for advice on raising an awesome and respectable human who also happens to be one of the most successful musicians of our time, then Virginia Grohl would definitely be the authority on the subject. Not only does Dave Grohl have an immense amount of talent and stage presence (even with a broken leg), he has been hailed as one of the nicest people in rock and one of the funniest and grounded in the music industry. His mom did a great job, that’s for sure.

In her new book, published by Seal Press and with a foreward written by her son, Virginia Grohl shares her own experiences with raising her rocker son, as well as the stories of other famous artists’ parents. For two years, Grohl traveled extensively to sit down and talk with the parents of some of music’s most charismatic figures. The mothers of Dr. Dre, Adam Levine, Michael Stipe, Miranda Lambert, Kelly Clarkson, and Amy Winehouse all contributed their stories and experiences. Many topics are covered from the perspective of the parents, including how each feel about their progeny’s fame, the fears that stem from the lifestyles often associated with fame, and if they encouraged their kids to pursue other careers.

From Cradle To Stage is available for preorder now and will be released on Amazon and in stores on April 18. Virginia Grohl and her son will be showcasing the book and meeting fans at LA Times Festival of Books in Los Angeles on Saturday, April 22.
