If you feel like David Lynch is toying with you, there’s a good chance you saw his teaser tweet and visited the corresponding website.
Dear Twitter Friends, it'll be just like in the movies. Pretending to be somebody else. pic.twitter.com/2UMDXyyw1q— David Lynch (@DAVID_LYNCH) September 19, 2016
What We Know So Far
Other than the silhouette resembling Lynch and a Mulholland Drive quotation, there was no other information provided by the Twin Peaks Director. Several microsites recently appeared, and two are related to Twin Peaks businesses; the others are connected with his other projects (Blue Velvet, The Elephant Man). Each site redirects users to www.playinglynch.com, which is counting down to Tuesday, September 27th at 8am EST.
The two Twin Peaks-related sites give a tiny glimpse into present day Twin Peaks.
Lanterman’s Oils: Handcrafted essential oils with each blend holding "the distilled healing powers of the coniferous forests that surround Twin Peaks."
Double R Diner: Good news for Norma fans, she's still working at the Double R. It's interesting that huckleberry pie is highlighted and not Cooper's favorite cherry pie.
All of the businesses offer a personal touch along with generic niceties that feel misleading if you know anything about Lynch's body of work.
What Does It All Mean?
The countdown could be for anything. David Lynch could be putting out a new box set, which seems unlikely considering that the Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery was released on Blu-Ray in 2014. It could be a new trailer for Twin Peaks Season 3. Or maybe it's related to Lynch's upcoming sold-out Festival of Disruption where he is bringing together his favorite artists from music, art and film. There's also the possibility that he's working on a biopic or some giant movie mashup. Or he could be offering a fantasy camp for aspiring filmmakers, which sounds both amazing and terrifying.
Game on, David Lynch, I'm #PlayingLynch, and the suspense is killing me. I just hope not to end up wrapped in plastic.
