Daydream Review & Smooth Rogers Drop “Yesterday And Tomorrow” Remix

“… a moment of clarity, or a reckoning, over of how you’ve been living your life and the things that you’ve come to anticipate…”

As many people have and do, Elijah Montez marked a new chapter in his life when he packed up his life in Austin and moved to Chicago. It was there that he started his psychedelic pop project Daydream Review, cutting his teeth in one of the most established musical cities in the world.

The move inspired him to write songs that many can relate to; often about excitement towards the future, as well as the anxiety, stress and pressure that big moments in life can and often do indeed cause us all.

The music Daydream Review creates – multi-layered, rather personal and often reflective – offer listeners moments of clarity at times when it’s most needed.  He’s also earned himself considerable media attention from the likes of The Alternative, WGN Radio and Impose Magazine among others.

His track “Yesterday and Tomorrow” is a song which he says is: “…devoted to sea change; a moment of clarity, or a reckoning, over how you’ve been living your life and the things that you’ve come to anticipate. In those moments, there’s almost a destruction of self as you move on to a better state of mind.”

He adds: “I think parts of that come with mourning the past, as well as your expectations for the future. In the end, though, you look forward to new possibilities and ultimately feel relieved to be moving on.”

The song now has a new remix by Zac Bron – going under his new project name Smooth Rogers – which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere. Zac shares of creating this new version: “When Eli reached out and asked me to do a remix, I was thrilled. After telling me that it was going to be for ‘Yesterday and Tomorrow,’ I was even more excited – I’m a sucker for funk and disco stuff so I thought, this is already a groovy track, let’s up the groove even more.”

Asked about what his focus and idea was for the remix, they explain: “My goal was to take this already dance-able tune — and make it extra dance-able. I kept the structure pretty similar throughout the song but stripped away certain elements at some points to let the bass and guitar shine through. I also mixed the vocals in a way that I felt fit the new direction I was taking the song and then topped it off with some new drums and some additional synthesizer effects. It was a blast to work on, and my first real remix, so it was truly an honor to put my own little twist on this great track.”
