DC Announces New Comics And New Creative Teams

This summer, DC will launch 24 new series which will join the 25 bestselling series returning from their two-month Convergence hiatus.

This summer, on June 3rd, DC will launch 24 new series which will join the 25 bestselling series returning from their two-month Convergence hiatus.

In the DC announcement, it states, “Iconic Super Heroes and Super-Villains Universe is diversifying to make room for more types of storytelling, more fans.” DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Dan DiDio adds, “This heralds in a new era for the DC Universe which will allow us to publish something for everyone, be more expansive and modern in our approach and tell stories that better reflect the society around us. Whether you’ve been a DC fan your whole life, or whether you are new to comics – there will be a book for you beginning in June.”

In addition, the announcement includes new creative teams. National Book Award finalist, Gene Leun Yang, will pair up with artist John Romita Jr. for the ongoing Superman adventures; Garth Ennis and John McCrea return to DC Comics for a limited series titled Section Eight; Branden Fletcher, the co-writer behind the Batgirl book, will be writing the new Black Canary series; Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti team up for the new Starfire and Harley Quinn/Power Girl while continuing the popular Harley Quinn series. You can see more of the creative teams here.

“More than ever before, DC Comics fans are  being exposed to our rich portfolio of characters through multiple sources… We are looking to extend that experience within publishing to ensure there is a comic book for everyone. For example, the Arrow television show may want more stories about Black Canary,” says Co-Publisher Jim Lee. “Truly there will be something for everybody as we simultaneously celebrate our rich legacy while embracing new voices and concepts.”

More than half-a million free issues will be given away on Free Comic Book Day.
