Popstar Demi Lovato has spoken up about her appearance on the hit TV series Glee.
She revealed to Access Hollywood that she hopes that her character Dani inspires people to “love for who they are.” She said “I get to play a lesbian on the show and that’s something that I feel like hasn’t really been brought to primetime with, you know, as a young actress. And I think it represents where out society is today. It’s becoming the norm and I’m really glad that I get to represent- that how far we’ve come.”
Lovato went onto explain “You know 15 years ago, you wouldn’t have seen that on TV, but now people are becoming more comfortable with it and I’m glad that I get to represent that, and also, just hopefully inspire people with my character to love who they are and accept who they are and not give a crap what other people think.”
Demi also added by saying she got to work with people she is friends with, “I am really excited because not only do I get to join a cast of a bunch of fun people that I’ve already been friends with for awhile now…it’s just gonna be fun.”
Lovato admires Lea Michele, who had came back to work on the Fox series following the unexpected death of boyfriend Cory Monteith in July. “She’s great. She’s such a strong woman and I’m so proud of her. Love her so much,” Lovato said about Michele.
Naya Rivera recently spoke up to MTV News about working with Lovato saying, “She’s playing my love interest, so I’m very, very excited about that.” She also revealed that, “We get to sing a song together. It’s gonna be good. I’m excited to work with her. We’re bringing her to the dark side. Well, she comes in in a Beatles episode, so we’re singing a Beatles song. I’m excited.”
The fifth season of Glee premieres on September 26th with the Beatles two-part episode. Sky1, which airs Glee in the UK, will show the first three episodes of the upcoming season “within seven days” of the US broadcast on Fox. You can check out a trailer for the 2 part season premiere below.
