Demi Lovato has just kicked off her Neon Lights Tour with its first date in Vancouver, but she already has her sights set on her next project.
“I’ve already started recording for my new album, and I have plans to record during the tour. The sound, it just evolves into everything that I’ve been and everything that I want to become,” she explained in an interview with MTV News
. “I’ve never been so sure of myself as an artist when it comes down to confidence, but not only personal things, but exactly what I want my sound to be and what I know I’m capable of. This album will give me the opportunity to show people what I can really do.”
The “Neon Lights” singer brought on fellow musician Nick Jonas to creatively direct her tour
“This is bigger and better than any show that I’ve ever put on, it’s a completely different tour. It’s kind of just the next step in my career, and 2014 is going to be [expletive] amazing,” Lovato said.
Jonas revealed that the tour includes a lot of “exclusive content”, which Lovato said was inspired by Beyoncė’s recent self-titled visual album.
The 21-year-old also had to reinvent some of her older tracks, because over the years she’s gotten a bit bored with them.
“We looked online at what her fans wanted to hear, and what she’s played over the last couple of years and said, ‘Okay, so these are the songs that we should play. How can we re-imagine them?’” Jonas said.
“We’ve transformed songs that went from being made a couple of years ago to actually sounding like today’s music,” Lovato added.
Lovato’s opening acts include a slew of up-and-coming female vocalists: girl groups Fifth Harmony and Little Mix, and English pop artist Cher Lloyd.
