The summer of (un)love claimed another couple as a victim today, and this one came as quite a shock. After six years together, Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama called it quits.
The now ex-couple wrote the following statement, which was posted on their Instagram accounts:
“After almost 6 loving and wonderful years together, we have decided to end our relationship.
This was an incredibly difficult decision for both of us, but we have realized more than anything that we are better as best friends. We will always be supportive of one another.
Thank you to everyone who has offered us kindness and support over the years.
With only love,
Wilmer & Demi”
This break-up comes on the heels of Amber Hearst and Johnny Depp’s divorce, Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris’ break-up, and Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid’s break-up. It has been a rough time for cupid.
But this particular break-up was gasp-inducing because the couple appeared to be pretty stable, supported each other thoroughly and even spoke frequently about getting married down the road. Demi Lovato had said “I am very, very in love with him. I think we will probably wait a little bit longer, but if he asked tomorrow I would say yes,” in an interview for a New Zealand radio show. She also talked marriage with Ellen DeGeneres, saying “We’ve been together this long… obviously I’m not going anywhere.”
Wilmer Valderrama was seen supporting Demi Lovato’s performance on the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas on May 22nd, only a couple of weeks ago.
Lovato is currently touring with Nick Jonas. The Future Now tour will run until mid-September.
