The Showtime series Dexter came to an end weeks ago but people are still talking about the ending. It left fans, for the most part, disappointed. Finally Showtime producer John Goldwyn is speaking out about how the writers came to the decisions of our favorite vigilante serial killer’s fate.

If you have yet to catch up on Dexter or you just want to refresh your memory on the series finale check out PopWrapped’s Recap of the finale episode here (https://pop-wrapped.wordpress.com/2013/09/23/join-us-to-say-goodbye-to-dexter-with-remember-the-monsters/). Warning spoilers ahead!

Goldwyn revealed that the writers were told by Showtime that Dexter had to stay alive, death was just not an option. “When we told them the arc for the last season, they just said, ‘Just to be clear, he’s going to live’. There were a lot of endings discussed because it was a very interesting problem to solve, to bring it to a close.”

Personally I feel the ending didn’t do the series justice. I find it hard to believe Dexter, intelligent and cunning, would go on to live the remainder of his life as a lumberjack. I do however feel better knowing that the writers were told he had to live. Maybe with a little freedom Dexter would have met a different fate.
