Dianna Agron Opens Up About Media Reaction To Her

As an original Glee cast member and having played Finn Hudson’s on-again-off-again girlfriend, Quinn Fabray on the show, the absence of Dianna Agron from the Cory Monteith tribute episode, “The Quarterback”, sparked numerous rumours and conjectures. From her busy work schedule to a feud with showrunner Ryan Murphy to not being invited to participate, the cause of her absence was debated and discussed among fans in the lead up to the episode airing. Now, just over a month since the episode aired, Agron has spoken to Digital Spy about her non-involvement in “The Quarterback”. Though Agron has not yet appeared in Glee’s current fifth season and only appeared in a handful of season four episodes, her absence from "The Quarterback" almost overshadowed in the episode in some quarters. Agron spoke out saying that the press had made her absence into a bigger, more “negative” story than what it actually was. She described how “surprised” she was at “how big that story” became. She hit out at the press saying, “It’s just interesting how the press loves to pick up a negative story – whether it’s true or not – and run with it.” Agron reflected on how the episode was “something that's involving our friend” and that the press’ negative spin on her lack of involvement was “very disheartening and very sad”. Everyone was dealing with the loss of Monteith as well as having to get through the filming of the episode, so the rumours surrounding Agron were not helping anyone: "On top of that to have things like this flying around, it makes me sad." While she did not appear in the episode, Agron did join the Glee cast and crew at the Paramount lot for the private memorial to Monteith on July 25.
