Over the years, the iconic character, James Bond, has been played by twelve different actors over different mediums; from television to radio, and of course on film, Bond has been everywhere.

But did you know that Mary Poppins star, Dick Van Dyke, was in talks to be Bond?!

In an interview with Kevin Pollak, Van Dyke discussed his experience with Albert R ‘Cubby’ Broccoli – Bond Producer – and how he was to replace the ever so iconic Sean Connery.

Van Dyke joked that it wasn’t until Broccoli heard his English accent did he say “forget it!”

Van Dyke has already had the opportunity to work with the writing of Ian Fleming when he played Caractacus Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

In the interview, Van Dyke also discussed other actors who have played the iconic role and how they compared to the novel version; more specifically, they talked about Daniel Craig.

Dyke commented on the most recent Bond saying, “For some reason he lacks the panache to be Bond, to me.”

However, he also called Craig a “wonderful actor” who has “great physicality”.
