Toonami will soon be receiving a new anime series – and this is definitely one worth checking out! FUNimation made the announcement that their new talked about series Dimension W will join the ranks of the select anime series that air of Toonami’s Saturday night block on Cartoon Network. Toonami has been around since 1997 (which was cancelled in 2008, but revived in 2012) and provided anime programming weekday evenings, which has since become a weekend broadcast with animes that can also include more mature themes. Acting as a great introduction to anime, Toonami promotes the assimilation of anime into pop-culture, usually selecting a series that resonate with a specific audience.
Dimension W will officially join other FUNimation series on Toonami such as Samurai Champloo and Dragon Ball Z Kai – while the network includes a little of almost every company. The Toonami airings will be the debut of the broadcast English dub, and two weeks after each episode has aired they will become available to stream via FUNimation! I haven’t had the chance to check out the anime so far, but everything I have seen regarding it makes me more excited to witness the unique story for myself! Major kudos to Toonami for adding Dimension W to their slate, and for providing 14 years of solid anime series – I can’t wait to watch it’s debut on Saturday February 27th at 12:30 Eastern! Check out the synopsis, preview, and voice cast for the new anime series below!
The synopsis describes Dimension W as: “In the year 2071, the world’s energy problems seem solved by a network of cross-dimensional electric-field inductors- “coils” -that extract energy from a seemingly infinite source. That source is the W dimension, a fourth plane that exists beyond the X, Y, and Z dimensions. In this world, unofficial “illegal” coils harness powers that the police can’t hope to counter. Dealing with these coils is the job of coil-hating repo man Kyoma, whose run-in with the unique coil android Mira leads the two to form a reluctant partnership.”
