Disney’s adorable show about a dysfunctional yet loving family, Good Luck Charlie, will go where no Disney show has ever gone. A future episode of the show will feature a character with two moms. Say what?
TV Guide reports that the show’s producers are currently casting the mothers who will come into contact with parents Amy and Bob Duncan when they set a play date for their daughter Charlie and one of her new friends. When the couple realizes Charlie’s new friends has two moms upon their arrival, the problem will not lie in their sexuality. Instead, problems will arise when one mom gets on famously with Amy, and the other is forced to listen to Bob’s dull stories.
What’s that? The problem lies with half of the straight couple and not the lesbian mothers? Disney, thank you for doing this right.
Disney has gotten some flack for morals and values encouraged in shows like Shake it Up. The network seems to be making a positive change with airing this episode. Talk about redemption.
Miley Cyrus and Evan Rachel Wood seem to agree, as both reached out to express their support.
Just Sunday, the two stars well known for their advocating for LGBT rights turned to twitter to show their support on Sunday reports EOnline.
Evan retweeted After Ellens post reporting the development, and quipped, “Hell Yes.”
Miley responded to Evan, having wrote “is this true?!?!?! I commend Disney for making this step into the light of this generation. They control…so much of what kids think! Life isn’t bright sets & wardrobe & kids becoming superstars! This is INSPIRING.”
Couldn’t have said it better Miley. It speaks volumes to have these characters added, but having stars like Miley and Evan showing support also makes a huge impact.
The anticipated episode of Good Luck Charlie is set for production next month. It will air next season in 2014.
