Disney Freezes Out Catching Fire At This Weekend's Box Office

Claudia Walrad

Staff Writer

Would the Disney Princesses be able to outwit Katniss? It appears as though that might be true - for this past weekend at least. The new animated feature Frozen has overtaken the highly anticipated Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire, which had been in the top spot for two weeks straight. Frozen hauled in a grand total of $31.6 million in revenue, while the Lionsgate sequel was only able to bring in $27 million. The Disney feature has enjoyed a great deal of media coverage in the press circuit upon its release. The story of two princess sisters, voiced by Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel, Frozen addresses themes of family and unconditional love, which may be one of the reasons it has resonated so strongly among moviegoers. Another reason could be its musical offerings, of which Demi Lovato has contributed to in the single, "Let It Go." However, fans of the Hunger Games series continue to flock to the multiplexes since its release. Many have been impressed with the performances of leads Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson as well as the overall production values of the sequel. Featuring returning favorites such as Liam Hemsworth and Elizabeth Banks, as well as industry veteran Donald Sutherland as President Snow, audiences have not been disappointed and continue to purchase their The Hunger Games: Catching Fire tickets. Only time will tell if Princesses Anna and Elsa will overtake Katniss and Peeta for yet another weekend, but it is certain that fans of both will show their allegiance in ticket sales. Also, the box office must take into account upcoming features. You never know.... Ron Burgundy and Company may just prove to be the "classiest" of them all! http://www.Twitter.com/PopWrapped https://pop-wrapped.tumblr.com http://www.SoundCloud.com/PopWrapped http://www.Facebook.com/PopWrapped http://www.Instagram.com/PopWrapped http://www.Pinterest.com/PopWrapped http://www.YouTube.com/PopWrapped https://pop-wrapped.wordpress.com http://www.PopWrapped.com
