Disney/PIXAR’s ‘Cars 3’: New Trailer Talk

Lightning McQueen returns to the racetrack in the upcoming third installment of the Cars franchise, and the new trailer is getting us octaned-up!

PIXAR’s next summer sure-to-be hit is zooming into theaters this June, and the latest trailer just dropped last week!

Closing out the racecar trilogy comes Cars 3 (2017), where, after Lightning McQueen suffers a devastating crash, he might have to come to terms with moving on from his racing life; however, young mentor Cruz Ramirez (Cristela Alonzo) has some tricks up her sleeve to get Lightning back up to compete against the uncatchable and high-tech Jackston Storm (Armie Hammer). After the new spy spin and lukewarm reception of Cars 2 (I myself loved it), Cars 3 appears to be taking the franchise back to its roots: racing, relationships, Radiator Springs, and maybe some thought-provoking life lessons on the later road in life. It seems to be something of a left turn but a strong and bold new direction that this franchise seems to be going in (and ending in?).

It’s good that, even with the lackluster success of Cars 2, the minds of PIXAR still felt called to close out the series with a bang. Toy Story 3 (2010) did that well (at least until we heard Toy Story 4 (2019) was on the horizon), so it’s a sure bet that Cars 3 will follow suit. It’s nice, too, to see a familiar set of characters on screen (including our Radiator Springs pals like Sally (Bonnie Hunt), Sarge (Paul Dooley), Luigi (Tony Shalhoub), etc.); it’s hard to believe that the first film came out over ten years ago.

With some laughs from our old pal Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) and newcomer Ramirez, the next Cars installment looks to be a supremely entertaining animated fest, with lots of racecar action at various speedways that we have come to expect. Cars 3 looks to be no slouch in intensity and maybe has something more poignant to offer that PIXAR often excels in.

Cars 3 will star the voice talents of Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, Armie Hammer, Nathan Fillion, Bonnie Hunt, Tony Shalhoub, Chris Cooper, Cristela Alonzo, and many many more, speeding into theaters on June 16, 2017. Check out the newest trailer below!
