On Friday, Disney announced that box office hit Frozen 2 will be available to stream on Disney+ on Sunday, March 15 in the United States and internationally on Tuesday, March 17. This is more than three months earlier than planned. In spite of everything that is going on with COVID-19, this is the kind of good news that the world needs right now.

Disney made the announcement on Twitter saying it hopes to help by “surprising families with some fun and joy during this challenging period.” Since everyone is stuck at home with nothing to do, hopefully, this will keep kids entertained for a little while.

Frozen 2 is the number one highest-grossing animated movie of all time as it made over $1.4 billion worldwide. It features the return of all of our favourite characters, Anna (Kristin Bell), Elsa (Idina Menzel), Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), Sven, and Olaf (Josh Gad) as they venture into the unknown to find the source of Elsa’s powers. Robert Lopez and Kristin Anderson-Lopez also returned with new songs for the sequel including Oscar-nominated “Into The Unknown” and Christopher Beck wrote the score again.

“Frozen 2 has captivated audiences around the world through its powerful themes of perseverance and the importance of family, messages that are incredibly relevant during this time,” said Disney CEO Bob Chepak. In the sequel, the girl power and familial love over romantic love themes are still prominent and Elsa and Anna’s sisterly bond is stronger than ever. Elsa even opts to wear pants during most of the adventure north to Ahtohallen. Now the sisters wrestle with righting wrongs from past generations and working toward making peace with nature.

So while you’re trapped inside for the next few weeks, at least you can have a good laugh watching “Lost in the Woods” over and over again (maybe the best scene to come out of Disney Animation Studios in years) and enjoy the gorgeous animation of “Into The Unknown”.
