The plotline for Disney’s sci-fi film Tomorrowland has been revealed as they begin filming the much-anticipated film.
The film, which is directed by Brad Bird (The Incredibles), began filming over two weeks ago. Although secrecy has remained tight on the project, yesterday the studio released it’s start of production statement. This has confirmed some plot points as well as keeping fans interested.
The statement said, “Bound by a shared destiny, a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor jaded by disillusionment embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory as ‘Tomorrowland’.”
The film stars George Clooney, Hugh Laurie, Britt Robertson, Raffey Cassidy and Thomas Robinson. It is directed, produced and co-written by Brad Bird, while Damon Lindelof and Jeffrey Chernov are also producers. The screenplay is written by Bird and Lindelof. The screenplay is inspired from a story by Lindelof, Jeff Jenson and Bird.
Brad Bird and Damon Lindelof teased the film while at Disney’s D23 Expo earlier this month, where their presentation left fans wanting to know more about the film. At the expo, the pair unpacked a box which they told viewers were from the Disney archives.
They said that the contents of the box, which included a magazine, a fake photo of Walt Disney and Amelia Earhart and a clip about the dangers of technology, inspired them to write this film.
Disney also released a free app for fans to explore the contents of the mysterious box.
Tomorrowland opens December 12, 2014.
