In the past few years, we’ve had some of our favorite classic fairy tales come to life on the big screen. This roster includes Little Red Riding Hood, Alice in Wonderland and several adaptations of Snow White.
We’ll also be seeing a live action adaptation of Cinderella coming to the big screen with Thor director Kenneth Branagh bringing the classic tale to life.
At Disney’s D23 Expo, Branagh teased audiences with his plans for the live-action adaptation.
At the expo, a screen test with the new Cinderella (Lily James) donning a blue gown was shown, making the audience familiar with the new face of the iconic Princess.
Branagh also went on to describe how some of the iconic characters will be. The Prince (Richard Madden) is described as a “funny, smart, sexy prince”, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The evil stepmother (Cate Blanchett) will be both wicked and witty. Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother (Helena Bonham Carter) will be “warm and tender and funny.”
Branagh also wants to make sure that he gets the iconic scenes of the classic tale right. The combined talents of Branagh and a cast including Dowton Abbey’s Lily James as Cinderella, Game of Thrones’ Richard Madden as the prince and Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother, I think fans definitely have something to look forward to.
Cinderella is set to begin filming this fall. We can expect to see it in the Spring of 2015!
