If you’re a Disney fanatic, or even just a casual fan, chances are you’ve wondered about the Disney villains. What’s their real backstory? Is every Disney story written from the point of view of the protagonist? Did they have a family? Well, your questions are about to be answered! Disney is releasing a new movie, Descendants, which will follow the lives of some of the famous villains’ teenage children. Here’s the official synopsis from Bleeding Cool: “In a present day idyllic kingdom, the benevolent teenaged son of the King and Queen (Beast and Belle from Disney’s iconic Beauty and the Beast) is poised to take the throne. His first proclamation: offer a chance at redemption to the trouble-making offspring of Cruella De Vil, Maleficent, the Evil Queen and Jafar who have been imprisoned on a forbidden island with all the other villains, sidekicks, evil step-mothers and step-sisters. These villainous descendants (Carlos, Mal, Evvie and Jay, respectively) are allowed into the kingdom to attend prep school alongside the offspring of iconic Disney heroes including Fairy Godmother, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel and Mulan. However, the evil teens face a dilemma. Should they follow in their nefarious parents’ footsteps and help all the villains regain power or embrace their innate goodness and save the kingdom?” Villainous prep school? Seeing the next generation of Disney baddies will certainly be entertaining! But what about the standard “love conquers all” arc that Disney is known for? Well, the creators have an answer for that. “So, some will come good, some will go bad and there’s going to be a bit of star-crossed love. And that love might even save the day.” You mean…not everyone will be redeemed? The star-crossed love brings to mind the tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet, but hopefully this story won’t have to end in death. With love, good versus evil, and teenage angst, this movie is shaping up to be a lot of fun! “The fun of this thing is going to be in the casting, I think. Sadly I don’t think we’ll get Glenn Close and Angelina Jolie cameos, but I’ll be intrigued to see how much of a crossover with Maleficent and the live-action Dalmatians movies is implied.” Be sure to keep an eye out for more Disney news—and check out the half-Mickey in the Descendants logo!
