As always, marking the nearing end of the year is the annual “United State of Pop” mash up by DJ Earworm.  The 2013 edition of the mashup, released on YouTube December 3, is titled “Living the Fantasy” and features twenty-five of the year’s biggest hits. The mash up includes tracks from artists like Lorde (“Royals”), Miley Cyrus (“Wrecking Ball” and “We Can’t Stop”), Imagine Dragons (“Radioactive” and “Demons”), Macklemore and Ryan Lewis (“Can’t Hold Us” and “Thrift Shop”), Justin Timberlake (“Mirrors” and “Suit & Tie”) and more. DJ Earworm, or Jordan Roseman, has been mashing up top pop hits since 2007 and I’ve always looked forward to his seamless meshing of the years biggest hits around a single theme.  While the 2012 edition called “Shine Brighter” featured upbeat tracks like Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe”, One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” and Nikki Minaj’s “Starships”, this years mash up is "a little darker-themed…” DJ Earworm told Billboard. "'Wrecking Ball' is about destruction, and 'We Can't Stop' is sort of about resilience," says Earworm about two songs by Miley Cyrus that are heavily featured. "There's a lot of themes [in the mash-up] about rising from the destruction…” Whether you’re feeling a little nostalgic for this not-quite-over year or just want to see if one of your favorite 2013 hits made it into the mash up, you can check out “United State of Pop 2013” below!
