Talk about insulting accusation.

Last week, Django Unchained actress Danièle Watts was handcuffed and detained in Studio City, California after a citizen called 911 complaining of a man and woman “involved in indecent exposure inside a Silver Mercedes with the vehicle door open.”

Watts and husband Brian James Lucas (who is white) were kissing inside their car on the CBS lot before Watts stepped outside of the vehicle to make a call to her father. While on the phone, Watts was approached by an LAPD officer who asked her to produce her ID. The actress refused, stating that she hadn’t done anything wrong and walked away. Several moments later, still on the phone with her father, Watts was again approached by a police officer, but this time she was told to put her hands on the wall before being handcuffed and put in the back of a squad car.

Watts detailed the incident on her Facebook:

Today I was handcuffed and detained by 2 police officers from the Studio City Police Department after refusing to agree that I had done something wrong by showing affection, fully clothed, in a public place.

When the officer arrived, I was standing on the sidewalk by a tree. I was talking to my father on my cell phone. I knew that I had done nothing wrong, that I wasn’t harming anyone, so I walked away.

A few minutes later, I was still talking to my dad when 2 different police officers accosted me and forced me into handcuffs.

Talk about a scary situation.

Brian James Lucas backed his partner in his own Facebook post:

From the questions that he asked me as D was already on her phone with her dad, I could tell that whoever called on us (including the officers), saw a tatted RAWKer white boy and a hot bootie shorted black girl and thought we were a HO (prostitute) & a TRICK (client).

Thankfully, Watts was released after Lucas produced her ID, but that is little consolation for the whole ordeal or apparent mistaken identity.
