August 23rd saw Peter Capaldi come crashing out of the TARDIS amidst billowing smoke only to be confronted with a dinosaur in the Thames…and then he defeat an army of clockwork droids.

If that wasn’t enough, the end of the episode featured a special cameo from none other than Matt Smith, the Eleventh Doctor. Having left on Christmas Day in the World’s fastest regeneration, Eleven was back with a few words of advice for his companion, Clara.

He was seen phoning her from Trenzalore, just before he changed, to reassure her that she just needs to help this brand new man.

It was a touching scene and one that caused a collective “aaaaw” in the cinema screening.

The scene can only help younger viewers who perhaps may find the idea of regeneration a shocking one. Steven Moffat, lead writer, had this to say:

“It’s the fastest return ever on Doctor Who! It just felt utterly right for what we were planning for Peter’s Doctor, and right for Matt’s Doctor, that he would think of that as he was just about to go out the door. You think, ‘It’s never been done before… why not?.”

“Into the Dalek,” the second episode of Series Eight, airs on August 30th. See you then!
