Billie Piper is set to join Showtime’s new horror series, Penny Dreadful.
The show, which also stars Josh Hartnett and former Bond girl, Eva Green, will be filmed in Dublin, Ireland, and is set to start production in September.
Penny Dreadful, a British production will tell the origins of literary horror characters such as Frankenstein, Frankenstein’s Monster, Dorian Gray and Count Dracula
The eight part series will be written by executive producers Skyfall’s John Logan and Sam Mendes, marking their first television collaboration. David Nevins, Showtime’s President of Entertainment, said, “[They] are two of the great storytellers of our time.” Describing it as “a wholly original television show,” Nevins continues, ‘’The visual spectacle combined with the psychological insight in their re-imagining of these iconic literary characters seems totally mesmerising to me.”
Hartnett is set to play an American with a dark side, while Green will portray seductive Vanessa Ives, who was described as ‘the fulcrum of the show.’
The former Doctor Who companion will be returning to the TARDIS on the 23rd of November 2013 worldwide to avoid spoilers, in honour of the hit show’s 50th anniversary.
