Young Lando Calrissian has been officially cast, and we couldn’t be more excited because it really is perfect casting. Lucasfilm has announced that Donald Glover will star, alongside Alden Ehrenreich, as the Rebel Alliance General Lando Calrissian in the upcoming standalone Han Solo movie.

Jon Kasdan and Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi) wrote the screenplay for the Han Solo spin-off. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will be directing the movie, which is set for release in 2018.

“We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” said Lord and Miller in a statement. “These are big shoes to fill and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”

If you need a refresher on Han’s buddy and fellow smuggler Lando, he was the original owner of the Millennium Falcon who lost the ship to Han in a bet. Is anyone else hoping that we see the bet unfold onscreen and find out once and for all if Lando lost fair and square? Knowing how much of a scoundrel Han is, there’s a possibility he may have cheated.

“This is the first film we’ve worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with,” the directors said in July. “We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you’ve loved since before you can remember having dreams at all.”

In addition to acting, Donald Glover raps under the stage name Childish Gambino. Furthermore, Glover is currently starring on FX’s new series Atlanta, which he also created. Next year, we will be able to see him in Spider-Man: Homecoming, in a yet unknown role. It’s safe to say that his career is red hot right now.

We’re sure that Glover will perfectly portray the smooth-talking smuggler, and we can’t wait to see him rocking that cape!
