Philadelphia-based soul artist Dondi has been around music since he was a young boy. Having started out performing with the Philadelphia Musical Academy Boys Choir, after a stint in the army, he went onto become the frontman for the JellyRoll event band, who played huge venues including Madison Square Garden and at the White House. Fast forward twenty years and Dondi made the choice to step out on his own and became truly hands-on in all aspects of his music, from song-writing, producing and recording.
He reminds everyone of the importance of living in the present and loving thy neighbor through and on his upcoming fourth LP ‘Swim In Your Skin.’ A soul album with a jazz influence, Dondi’s latest project encourages everyone to come together to promote unity and joy. Understanding and knowing full well the healing power music can and does possess, together with how much it has provided a source of solace and strength to millions around the world, himself included, over the last year, Dondi felt compelled to create this 12-track album. Now, as the songwriter, producer and engineer for the project, he’s ready to share ‘Swim In Your Skin’ with the world, and PopWrapped is delighted to premiere the collection.
Asked about the message behind the album and what he hopes all who hear the project will take from it, Dondi says, “The world has been in turmoil for some time now. Political divides, social justice and equality issues. Gender gaps, xenophobia dilemmas, not to mention a pandemic. Writing ‘Swim In Your Skin’ was a healing process for me. I needed to remind people that feeling love for another human being was still the most comforting and spiritually uplifting thing we could do for one another.”
