Legend Doris Day will celebrate her 90th (yes, 90th!) birthday on April 4th, and what better way to celebrate than with an auction to benefit animals.

Day has been an animal rights activist since she was a teen, founding in 1978 the Doris Day Pet Foundation, now the Doris Day Animal Foundation, which funds other non-profit causes throughout the US that share the mission of helping animals.

“There is so much work still to do to rescue animals, and to inform people about the importance of spaying and neutering their pets,” Day said.

A spokesman for Day said that the birthday bash will take place at Day’s Cypress Inn in California and will include a doggie fashion show, adoption event and a tribute dinner for fans and friends.

Autographed items by Day and her celebrity friends including Tony Bennett and Sir Paul McCartney will be auctioned off online and at the dinner. The online bidding ends on April 1st (so if you want one of those items, you better hurry!).

Doris Day was an actress and singer from the 40’s to the 60’s, starring in films such as Pillow TalkCalamity Jane and Young Man with a Horn, with Kirk Douglas.

As a singer, she recorded hit songs including “Que Sera, Sera”.  In 2011 she released the compilation album My Heart.

She has dedicated herself to animal welfare since she left the entertainment industry.
