It seems like Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are inseparable even when it comes to career choices!

After it was announced that the Sherlock himself will play Hamlet later in 2015, the Watson to his Holmes is also starring in another Shakespeare play, Richard III.

Freeman will play the title role as King Richard III, on the West End stage in a Trafalgar Studios production in London later this year. The play is produced by Jamie Lloyd, a director of the Trafalgar Transformed, who also produced Macbeth in 2013 starring James McAvoy.

“I am confident that, with the brilliant and hugely popular Martin Freeman playing the title role in a provocative production, we will continue to attract a generational mix of theatregoers to our corner of the West End,” said Lloyd.

“I have wanted to work with Martin for many years and am sure he will bring something unexpected and unique to this iconic role,” he added.

Martin earned his fame by starring in BBC’s Sherlock as John Watson, The Office as Tim, and as Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit films. His last appearance on stage was in 2010 in Clybourne Park at the Royal Court Theatre, directed by Dominic Cooke.

The Love Actually star will be also playing the lead as Lester Nygaard in the television adaptation of Fargo, alongside Billy Bob Thornton.

But Benedict and Martin are not the only Sherlock stars who went on stage! Mark Gatiss, aka Sherlock’s big brother Mycroft Holmes, and co-writer of Sherlock, also recently appeared on the Donmar Warehouse production of Shakespeare’s Coriolanus, along with our favorite villain, Tom Hiddleston.

That’s a lot of good news for us Sherlockians!
