In the immortal words of Charlene Kaye, "I'll wear that dress if you wear that tie." What she failed to mention, ladies, is that you must only wear that dress if his tie has a Charmander on it.
Or another kind of Pokemon/fandom persona. We're not picky.
It's hard being your crazy, fandom-loving self in the real world when we're all expected to wear "real people clothes." You know the ones: suit and tie, dress and cardigan, or just dark pants and a nice top.
But what about your interests? What about those nights spent binge watching Darkwing Duck, Orange is the New Black, Stranger Things, Doctor Who, or even those older episodes of Pokemon?
What about representing your Pokemon GO team? Is it appropriate to represent your fandom in the workplace?
Usually, if you have to ask, the answer is yes.
So how can we do that?
Whether you are allowed to wear Steven Universe earrings or can only dress up your cubicle, accessories are a great way to show off your fandom pride.
Hot Topic is one of the well-known stores that sells fandom T-shirts and accessories -- anything from Doctor Who suspenders to Black Butler rings to Sailor Moon transformation wands. They even have a full wall of Funko Pop for anyone looking to add some extra representation to their work space.
Taking it back to the Black Butler rings! Many fandoms have some kind of jewelry piece. Whether it's worn by the main character or a quirky support character, you can usually find something at your local stores or on Etsy.
Fandom shirts and patterned bottoms aren't always the best office attire. However, if there is a color scheme to a show or series, that can help you select an outfit to produce a subtle nod to some of your favorites.
Scarves, perhaps with striped patterns (Harry Potter), classic art (Doctor Who), or even with black and white sigils (Supernatural), can help add to an outfit. But really, these are just a few ideas. The possibilities, we have found, are endless.
These are just a few ways to dress up your work space. Whether you choose to dress up yourself or stick a few pictures up on your cubicle wall, how you choose to represent your fandom is completely your choice.
Now, if you'll excuse us, there are two beautiful seasons of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt to binge.
