We’ve all heard the expression “drunk as a skunk”, but drunk as a squirrel is a new one, certainly to me.
If anyone was ever wondering whether the furry little things could handle their alcohol, one squirrel in the UK has given an answer after it was spotted stumbling around Honeybourne Railway Club in Worcestershire.
Club secretary Sam Boulter first thought the place had been ransacked by burglars before he spotted the animal intruder, moving from behind a box of crisps.
Talking about finding glasses and bottles smashed in the Club, Boulter said:
“He had obviously run across the bar’s pumps and managed to turn on the Caffrey’s tap. He must have flung himself on the handle and drank some as he was staggering around all over the place and moving a bit slowly.”
He did however find some humor in the incident, despite the estimated £300 of damage, adding:
“I’ve never seen a drunk squirrel before. He was sozzled and looked a bit worse for wear.”
The on-the-sauce squirrel was eventually caught in a waste paper bin and released out of the window, before no doubt stumbling off to find somewhere to sleep of its hangover.
