Elizabeth Olsen Remains Coy On Involvement in Avengers Sequel

Kerri Kwong

Staff Writer

Elizabeth Olsen has finally spoken up about the rumors regarding her involvement in the Avengers sequel, The Avengers: Age of Ultron. As we reported two weeks ago, Olsen is currently the frontrunner to play the Scarlet Witch for Joss Whedon’s film.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the character Scarlet Witch (whose real name is Wanda Maximoff), she is the daughter of X-Men villain, Magneto, and also the twin sister of Quicksilver. Her ability is to alter probability. In other words, she can cause unexpected things to happen or likely things to not happen at all.

Olsen emerged as the frontrunner after it was revealed that Saoirse Ronan had passed on the role of the Scarlet Witch. MTV News caught up with the youngest Olsen sister while she attended the Toronto International Film Festival and asked her about her involvement in the series.

Having grown up a huge fan of comic books and sci-fi, Olsen says she would “love to do something like that.” She does, however, admit that she is unfamiliar with the Scarlet Witch and managed to dodge answering outright as to whether she has been offered or accepted the role. She only offered up that “sure” she would be interested in being a part of the film.

Elizabeth Olsen has come into her own from the shadow of her famous older sisters, fashion and film stars, Mary-Kate and Ashley, over the past few years. She shot to fame in Liberal Arts- a light comedy co-starring Zac Efron and Josh Radnor and the indie thriller, Martha Marcy May Marlene, garnering both critical acclaim and industry notice. It seems like Elizabeth’s acting career is on the ascent though, and if she does actually play the Scarlet Witch, there is no doubt that she will win over an entirely new fan base.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron is scheduled to be released in theatres on May 1, 2015.
